Portrait of a Lady 1
Aluminium, brass, 2023, 70x60x3cm
Portrait of a lady 1 and 2 consist of a series of garments based in the history of Sundholm (formerly Københavns Ladegård) as an institution for so-called ‘loose’ women. Items of clothing can protect and shield us from wind, weather and hard work, such as long thick gloves and a hat with a wide brim. Conversely, corsets and uniforms can be used to exercise control over our own bodies and those of others. The aluminium sculptures examines this alternation between care and control.
The making of the work was kindly supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
